In Ljungberg, Chicago gets a 33yo on the decline that has had a ho-hum season this year after a rather sparking one last year in Seattle. Seattle needed to offload Freddie as Blaise N'kufo and Alvaro Fernandez were looking to take up the two regular DP slots for the Sounders, and arguable would do better than Ljungberg, for cheaper.
It's hoped that Freddie brings more than pouty faces and modeling to Chicago with him, and rather brings his A game, which he seems to have left at home from the start of the season when he failed to show up in Seattle on what he described as a "communication error" but was seen as a means to try to get out of his contract in Seattle.
Currently, Ljungberg's $1.3mil contract expires in November with MLS, so if he flunks out, it'll be no real loss to Chicago this year, and they have the DP slot back for next season.
Chicago fans are welcome to follow Freddie on his blog, www.freddie.speaksup.com
