Rename A 5th Div Bundesliga Stadium

Not to be outdone by The Spoiler's fans, we here at The Soccer Insiders implore you to drop about 20 Euros in a lottery to rename SC Westfalia 04's 32,000 seat stadium in Herne, Germany (right near Gelsenkirchen and north of Cologne).

You can read more about the club, here.

As a quick walk through for those of you who don't speak German:

Name= Last Name
Vor Name= First Name (first name is the literal translation here)
Strasse + Nr= Street Address
Platz + Ort= City, State (cause you aren't from around there) and Zip (and it might help to include the country)
Email= Obvious
Telefon= Yup, still obvious there
Anzahl Lose zu je 20 Euro= Number of entries (@ 20Euro a pop)

Personally, I'm thinking TSI Stadium has a nice ring to it.

One Game Remaining in CONCACAF CL Group Stage

Earlier this week, the sixteen teams in the CONCACAF Champions League group stage each completed their fifth game out of six. The field is very competitive, with only three teams (Cruz Azul and Monterrey of Mexico, plus MLS champions Real Salt Lake) qualified for the quarterfinal round with a game still remaining. Five more quarterfinal spots are up for grabs.

Starting in Group A, Cruz Azul and Real Salt Lake have both qualified for the quarterfinals. Cruz Azul dominated Arabe Unido of Panama 2-0 in Mexico City. Emmanuel Villa of Argentina opened the scoring in the first minute, and then five minutes into the second half, Arabe Unido's Eric Davis committed a handball in the box, resulting in a penalty kick goal for the Cementeros.

Heath Pearce v Brek Shea Twitter Smackdown

The Unprofessional Foul broke this a few days ago, but there have been some updates since then.

Brek Shea doesn't have twitter. For some reason, Heath Pearce has been unrelentingly harassing him (usually 1-2 times a day) on his twitter posts.

For example:

Brek Shea's Family OBVIOUSLY excited about the upcoming USA Matches... So proud of their little kiddo!!!

Brek's ex and her friend Can't figure out why there is no Pacman on this machine down at the local employment cntr

So how will it conclude? Well, they both just got the callup for the US friendlies vs Poland and Colombia.

This should be interesting...

USMNT Roster for Poland and Colombia Friendlies

USMNT Roster for Poland & Colombia Friendlies

GOALKEEPERS- Brad Guzan (Aston Villa), Tim Howard (Everton)

DEFENDERS- Carlos Bocanegra (Saint-Étienne), Steve Cherundolo (Hannover), Clarence Goodson (IK Start), Eric Lichaj (Aston Villa), Oguchi Onyewu (AC Milan), Michael Parkhurst (FC Nordsjaelland), Heath Pearce (FC Dallas), Jonathan Spector (West Ham United)

MIDFIELDERS- Alejandro Bedoya (Örebro), Michael Bradley (Borussia Moenchengladbach), Maurice Edu (Rangers), Benny Feilhaber (Aarhus), Stuart Holden (Bolton Wanderers), Jermaine Jones (FC Schalke), Brek Shea (FC Dallas)

FORWARDS- Jozy Altidore (Villarreal), Clint Dempsey (Fulham), Eddie Johnson (Fulham)

So what do you think? Scared to see we are calling EJ back into the fold yet again? Waiting to see if Jermaine Jones really will suit up for us? Or itching to find out if Lichaj is really worth the new contract he signed with AV earlier this season?

CL Highlights: Man U v Valencia

Man U waits till the dying minutes to unleash Chicarito on Valencia to pull the late 3pts in the 1-0 win that was surprisingly more exciting than the scoreline portrays.

Morocco, We Have a Problem

Looks like Moroccan keeper Khaled Askary just can't seem to catch a break. Just last week we was too busy celebrating to understand that just by stopping a pk, doesn't mean a goal can't happen.

Now, seems he can't keep a ball under control (apparently, a goalkeeper has to, but no one told him).

As you noticed, he pretty much subbed himself off when he threw his jersey (an automatic yellow) and ran off the field.

He knows he messed up, we know he messed up and now you know he messed up. Hope you guys make sure you drop him from your fantasy Moroccan football squad for this coming week.

Trapattoni Channels Seinfeld

Former Italian national coach and current Irish national coach, Giovanni Trapattoni was interviewed in the wake of the arrest of Ecuadorian and former World Cup ref Byron Moreno.

To give some background, Moreno was Head Ref for the 2002 WC 2nd round game that saw South Korea upset and eliminate Italy. First, South Korea got an early, if questionable, pk which was saved. Then 13 minutes into extra time, Totti was ejected for simulation (debatable since he is Italian... and they have a rep for a reason). Three minutes from the final whistle, South Korea struck the decisive winner and moved on.

Now, it has been debated that South Korea was given questionable calls because it was co-hosting the WC, but now, Moreno has been arrested while smuggling several bags of heroin into the US by taping them to his chest and body.

In the wake of recent events, Trapattoni was asked about Moreno: "I saw even before going out onto the pitch against South Korea that it wasn't going to go well with the referee," Trapattoni said Wednesday. "Now maybe Trapattoni's reign on Italy's bench will be read under a different light." (AP)

This, we think is circumstantial as Trapattoni was still in charge of Italy when, during the Euro 04 group play, we saw them crash out despite having not lost a game (it can happen when you have nothing but low scoring draws). Ultimately, this, compounded with the 2002 WC and other less than stellar displays saw him canned.

Still, it's always funny to hear someone talk about themselves in 3rd person, as if they are above the fray and by speaking in such a way, they somehow lend "outside" observations to their opinions of themselves.
Trapattoni thinks you like how Trapattoni looks...
