One more Euro 2012 Qualifier

Check out some of these beautiful goals by Holland, playing without De Jong. Awww, poor Holland, has to start Afellay, who scores two of Holland's four goals and sets up one of the nicest goals I've seen all year with a cross from the left wing to Huntelaar - it is the third goal of the game. Sneijder is without a doubt the best playmaker center mid in the world. You should see some of the shots he set up for his teammates that DIDN'T go in. Sneijder makes the first two goals happen, and the fourth, too.

Looks like Hicks found some schmuck lawyer in Texas to issue a temporary restraining order to prevent the sale of Liverpool. Hicks and Gillett are describing the deal they "received" as "an epic swindle" and are planning on suing for $1.6billion. You read that right. They claim they were apparently swindled into thinking they could make gobs of cash and sell at a more than 3 times profit. Wha wha wha?

Not quite sure of the legalities here, but as Hicks and Gillett have their "headquaters" in the States, despite everything involved with Liverpool being in, well, Liverpool, the ruling is being followed until such time as the HMRC (Her Majesty's Royal Courts), Liverpool and NESV can get this petty injunction thrown out.

Seriously, these guys doesn't know when to quit. And are supremely greedy to boot. If I remember right, the $1.6bil is actually a little more than they demanded for the club, and nearly $1.1 billion more than they debt they owe (or even brought to the club)...

The Loudest and Quietest Sound You Ever Heard

...just happened earlier today.

If you are Satan, or one of the Hicks/Gillett household, you can't be happy with the HMRC decision to prevent you from actually selling a team you put into debt and which you have no intentions of paying for. Awww...

Conversely, if you are anyone else (and even I the Spurs fan am happy with the decision cause these guys are idiots), your yell of joy was drowned out as it was joined by many others.

The short is that the Kop board needs to be "reconstituted" or basically brought back together after Hicks/Gillett dissolved them, and a decision needs to be made as to take the NESV offer of about 300mil pounds or to take the suddenly resurfaced Singapore businessman Lim's improved offer of 320mil pounds cash. The decision has to be made by Friday or the holding company in charge of Liverpool will go into administration and the team will be docked 9pts in the standings.

Euro 2012 Qualifier Highlights

Aside from England dropping another performance as disappointing as the Wembley pitch against Montenegro of all teams (maybe they didn't want to see the pants dropping goal celebration), there were some surprises.

Belgium and Austria had a game of goal one-upsmanship, finishing 4-4.

Colombia v US Friendly Highlights

Guzan in goal, and we actually saw another formation change, with the US lining up in a 4-3-3 . Other looks saw Lichaj and Shea getting playing time and EJ unfortunately seeing the field again. Parkhurst, getting back in the lineup for the first time since 2005, also got on the pitch.

First half was pretty lackluster for the US. There was a disallowed goal for the US, which would have been their first win against a South American team in the last nine matches. Unfortunately, every replay starts when the flag goes up rather than when the ball was kicked. Jozy was a hair offsides when the flag went up, so no word if the ref actually even saw the kick and if he was on originally. Final score, 0-0.

Jones and Lichaj played well, so those were two positives, but we all know that baring a miracle, Jones won't be around for 2014. Some lackluster stuff, and Colombia were using some older players as well, so it didn't look like this was going to be something to really learn from for either team. Enjoy some highlights:

Blanc Goes All Scientific On France

Tired of seeing a national team coach choose players based on their horoscope or get into arguments with the media over their proclivity for Broadway musicals? Yeah, apparently France is too as new coach Laurent Blanc has now decided to employ psychological testing to determine the next French team captain.

Now I'll certainly give him a chance with this one. He managed to have France scrap to a late 2-0 win over Romania in Euro 2012 qualifying after that debacle that was the WC in South Africa. And he did it with players that the FFF has deemed inferior (although the others are banned for the moment, so that is kind of a moot point).

At the moment, time will tell, but certainly anything is better than:

Colombia v US Preview

After watching us sit the son of Polish immigrants while playing Poland, it is expected that Eric Lichaj will see some playing time. Not sure why BB decided to bench him in a friendly, where the entire goal is to try out new players before the WCQ kicks in, but, you know our opinion on Skeletor in charge of the USMNT...

The US and Colombia have announced the rosters for tonight's game:

Cherundolo and Bocanegra are returning to their clubs, so this could be a chance to try out some of the youngins. Will it happen? No. Not with unemployed DeMerit and benchwarmer for AC Milan, Gooch, available. Enjoy more frustration with us as you watch. The game is tonight 7pm CST on ESPN2.

Trophy Manager's 1st Annual TSI Cup

For those of you unaware, several of our contributors have been dabbling on Trophy Manager this season. It is an online fantasy soccer game where you manage and run a club in everyday operations and games to build your team into the powerhouse you wish your favorite club always could be. The general idea is that as a soccer/footie fan, you know enough to be able to do what real world owners do with other people's money (and most likely, you'd do it better). It is free, although they do offer a premium version with a few added features if you are so inclined. It's fun, it's addicting, and it's led us to create our first ever TSI Cup within that game.

The inaugural TSI Cup was a resounding success. Within 6 hours, we had 7 teams enter and another 2 on a waiting list. The teams were limited to Div 4, 5 and 6 so as not to make the games completely lopsided for the competitors. It was a round robin format; everyone played everyone once. Winner take all.

Euro 2012 Qualifier: Montenegro v Switzerland

I know what you are thinking, "why is he even bothering with a highlight of this game?" Well, I'll tell you, first, Montenegro upset the Swiss Miss 1-0, but it wasn't so much the goal, which was nice, but the celebration. Is this guy for real? Are they really this lacking in creativity and ingenuity when it comes to goal celebrations? Seriously, someone please bring back the digital crawl...

Poland v US Friendly Highlights

Good attacking game at Soldier Field in Chicago. The US got a good look at Jermaine Jones and took the lead twice in the match, but it wasn't enough. Poland and the US draw 2-2. Goals by Altidore and Onyewu (who scored on a corner header, as usual) led the US.

Holden had a relatively hot and cold game. His corners were crisp and led to the Onyewu goal, but sloppy passing out of the midfield in our defensive third saw him give away the ball too many times.

Euro 2012 Qualifier: Germany v Turkey

Klose drops two on Turkey before Ozil scores one of his own in Germany. Lukas Podolski returns to his frustrating form by missing a sitter from the pk spot on a beautiful setup pass from Ozil prompting German Coach Loew to take his frustrations out on a nearby ball on the sidelines. Germany wins, 3-0.
