2nd Annual TSI Cup

The 2nd Annual TSI Cup was another success. Despite losing one team due to inactivity (presumably) on their account, the competition for the Cup was fierce with several D4 and D5 teams slugging it out for the prize.

For those of you unaware, several of our contributors have been dabbling on Trophy Manager this season. It is an online fantasy soccer game where you manage and run a club in everyday operations and games to build your team into the powerhouse you wish your favorite club always could be. The general idea is that as a soccer/footie fan, you know enough to be able to do what real world owners do with other people's money (and most likely, you'd do it better). It is free, although they do offer a premium version with a few added features if you are so inclined. It's fun, it's addicting, and it's led us to create our first ever TSI Cup within that game.

The season went off pretty well and saw some contentious jockeying for 1st. In the end, we'd like to congratulate FC Gamecocks for winning the 2nd Annual TSI Cup. That said, Indy Force made a dramatic turnaround from last year's Cup and gets the most improved nod with their 2nd place finish on goal differential.

It is no surprise that the TSI Cup winner, FC Gamecocks, also won promotion to D3 at the end of the season. While we'd like to think that it was our tourney that allowed him to refine his formation, it was strong all around play from several of his players that put him over the top. Both Yarrow and White were in the top three in goals scored during the tournament and Gamecocks also had the 1st and 2nd place finishers in the assist category. With domination like that, it's easy to see how they won. It actually came down to the final match of the tourney to decide our winner. Two Robinson freekicks were the difference with Ord and White connecting on headers mid way through the 2nd half to seal the win and the Trophy victory. FC Gamecocks managed to keep the high scoring Philadelphia Irish in check to keep things interesting.

Of note, Gamecock's forward, Yarrow is getting a little long in the tooth and soon to retire. His first team place is now in jeopardy with a recent injury in the opening game of the new season and he is expected to be out for the next three matches. Otherwise, Gamecocks have a young squad and a nice pipeline of fresh new players getting experience in the lower D5 division.
