US Announces Gold Cup Roster

And it's a doozie...

Goalkeepers: Tim Howard (Everton, England), Marcus Hahnemann(Wolverhampton, England), Nick Romando (Salt Lake)

Defenders: Carlos Bocanegra (Saint-Etienne, France), Jonathan Bornstein (Tigres, Mexico), Steve Cherundolo (Hannover, Germany), Clarence Goodson (Brondby, Denmark), Eric Lichaj (Leeds, England), Oguchi Onyewu (Twente, Netherlands), Tim Ream (New York) Jonathan Spector (West Ham United, England)

Midfielders: Freddy Adu (Rizespor, Turkey), Michael Bradley (Aston Villa, England), Clint Dempsey (Fulham, England), Landon Donovan (Los Angeles), Maurice Edu (Rangers, Scotland), Benny Feilhaber (New England), Jermaine Jones (Blackburn, England), Sacha Kljestan (Anderlecht, Belgium), Robbie Rogers (Columbus)

Forwards: Juan Agudelo (New York), Jozy Altidore (Bursaspor, Turkey), Chris Wondolowski (San Jose)

Yes, you read those names correctly. Some new, but mostly old... very old. And definitely not what we'd bring to 2014. Jones? He's still here? Yeah, well, we had to give him a send off after defecting and since he won't be on the 2014 roster... Bocanegra is still playing? We really don't have a LB? Really? Anywhere? Bueller? And Freddy Adu? Freddy has made a mere 11 caps with 4 goals in D2 Turkey...

Sigh.

  1. Hey Bob Bradley, you forgot Teal Bunbury, althought this one I understand since Teal is coming off injury. But I don't understand including Freddy Adu on the team but not Jose Francisco Torres (only 23 years old)? And how can you possibly leave Timothy Chandler (21 years old) off the team after the performance he put in against Argentina? And whatever happened to Mikkel Diskerud (only 20)?

Of these four players, only Torres was on the World Cup roster and is not eliglble to play for a country other than the US. Each of the others could still join another team if Bob Bradley doesn't get thiem in an official match.

Chandler is still considering playing for Germany, Bunbury is still eligible for Canada, and Diskerud for Norway if they don't get locked in for the USA.

  2. Agree with you there. I don't see the point in Kljestan, he sucks. Too bad Holden is still out. And I'm surprised that Charlie Davies didn't make it, but can't wait to see Agudelo. Fair enough that Wondolowski gets a chance. But Adu? When are we gonna give up on this guy? The guy I want to see the most, though, is Lichaj. Ream is really overrated. Should be interesting.
