Gold Cup: Guadeloupe v US Highlights

Jozy finally shows what we've been waiting for with a screamer from 30yrds out. Damn. Too bad our million shots on goal ended in a 1-0 win... US needs to get that shooting thing figured out. Oh, and Wondolowski stinks it up again.

  1. I guess it is OK to use the Gold Cup to try out certain players. Now we know just how much Ream and Wondolowski suck, so we know NOT to play them in authentic World Cup qualifying. I'd like to see Charlie Davies start in qualifying and Juan Agudelo off the bench if we need offense.

We are hurting at center back, though. I'm making a case for Omar Gonzalez to get some experience in these sorts of competitions, since he is by far better than Tim Ream or Jay DeMerit at the MLS level. Clarence Goodson sucks, too, and at least now we know that by playing him in these Gold Cup matches.

Mexico is going to kick our butts if we even make it far enough to play against them.

  2. On an upside, Renken and Gyau have been getting significant playing time for Hoffenheim's U19 and U23 teams respectively. And how bout Gale Agbossomounde who's played in all but 2 games for D1 Swedish club Djurgardens? He's getting the playing time finally after that whole loan debacle where the Brazilian business actually owns his contract ala what Tevez used to have. Gale has started 8 of the last 9 matches at CB and the team, while sitting in the relegation zone, is still good experience. He's 19, 6ft2 and we've already called him up once for the USMNT against SA and he anchored the backline for the U20s in the Milk Cup last year when they won it in North Ireland. Might be worth calling in more when Sweden is out of season in October...
