Jack Warner Caught Again

Well, how can it be he got caught when he already "resigned" from his position with FIFA you ask? Simple, when he denied everything and then somehow coerced two of his employees that were present and implicated by association, he thought he was in the clear and everyone in the public wondered how he could ever be possibly proven wrong if FIFA has no jurisdiction over someone no longer in FIFA. Then...

The CFU (Caribbean Football Union) General Secretary came forth with a 2 page affidavit that says (summed up) that she was ordered by Jack Warner to collect a locked bag from his office containing wrapped small "gifts" to be distributed to each visiting CFU member on the day in question. She then asked the two soon to be implicated employees to go with Jack to distribute the gifts. When she met with those two employees the next day, they told her it was cash.

Ooops. Looks like Jack really isn't going to make that "exonerated" return to FIFA after all.

There is a great break down summary of the leaked letter from the BBC that is well worth the read.

As an aside, Warner stated that FIFA would have his complete cooperation in the bin Hammad investigation and that bin Hammam "would defend himself completely". Warner refused to make the trip while bin Hammam made it but refused to attend because "FIFA already found him guilty without hearing his side". Rumor has it that he is waiting for the FIFA live video stream of the guilty verdict later today to publicly start to defend himself, yet again.

Paraguay Makes Copa Finals without a Win

Say wha?

Yeah, I didn't believe it either until I went back to look at the stats. They scored 5 and had 5 goals against for 3 draws in the group stage. They moved on as the 2nd best of 3 3rd place teams. In the first knockout round, they drew Brazil in regulation, and won 2-0 on penalties. In the latest round, they beat Venezuela 5-3 on penalties after taking them to extra time 0-0.

That means, for the final, it's Paraguay vs. Uruguay. If Forlan or Suarez can score for Uruguay, then it might be over. If not, I'd be afraid to be Uruguay... or any breathing Paraguayan for that matter because they are about to unleash Larissa Riquelme and her 3rd rd of 15 seconds of fame onto the world with her promise of a naked streaking through the streets.

Oh, and in case you wanted highlights from Paraguay's pk win over Venezuela:

Brazil Out of Copa

Wow, just when I thought that a good team couldn't find a way to miss 3 pks (granted 2 were okay and saved), along comes Brazil and they find a way to shank 4.

In their defense, one did look like the pitch under the ball was torn up and the ball floated after he planted his foot, but regardless. Brazil is out of Copa in the quarters to Paraguay.

Perhaps the Brazilians wanted to see that Larissa Riquelme naked too. Honestly, from my understanding, they could have won and still seen that, but regardless, Paraguay moves on, 2-0.

Japan v USA World Cup Final Highlights

Time keeps on slipping...

USWNT, you had this game won... twice. And you let it slip away thrice. It wasn't totally your fault. Some bad bounces, we were killing it on their half for the first 20mins, but just couldn't put it away.

It was like watching the Yankees post 9/11. You wanted them to win, just to get past everything, just like millions of fans were rooting for Japan to win in their first trip to the Finals, and all post the devastating earthquake just barely 4 months ago.

You can't really hate the winners. They did it with class. Overcame odds, and in the end, it was like what happened to many other teams that dominated possession and shots this Cup, in some strange way. The team that should have won on paper, lost.

Alex Morgan scored a crack of a shot and Wambach got another great header goal. Both times though, Japan came back. What was interesting is the two friendlies we played against Japan just prior to this Cup, we won 2-0. Japan didn't look that strong.

But, they watched our games leading up to the final, and we've taken so many pks, that I as well as the Japanese keeper, were guessing which way we were shooting. And doing so correctly. We took a 2-2 draw into shootouts.

And we missed one, and had another 2 of the first 3 shots saved. If that isn't an omen, I don't know what is.

Here, watch the highlights, and know that we lost to a good team and it was our play that let us down. We overachieved this Cup (we didn't make the CONCACAF finals for heck's sake). Japan just overachieved a heck of a lot more. They deserve the win, and maybe this can help them give their country's katai shinkou in recovery a boost.
