USA 4-2 France

The United States women opened the Olympics with a come-from-behind 4-2 win over France. Gaetane Thiney scored first for France in the 12th minute, and then a France corner kick bounced around in the US penalty area for way too long until Marie-Laure Delie finally put it in the US net in the 14th minute. France led 2-0 at the 15 minute mark. They wouldn't score again. Abby Wambach headed in a corner kick in the 19th minute, and then Alex Morgan tied the game in the 32nd minute off an assist from a long ball by goalkeeper Hope Solo.

Carli Lloyd scored in the 56th minute to give the US a 3-2 lead, and then Alex Morgan added her second goal in the 66th minute to complete the scoring. Next for the US women is group doormat Colombia, on Saturday, July 28.
